JIM REEVES - THE ABBOTT RECORDINGS LP ALBUMS
Thirty-one years ago, in November of 1982 Jim Reeves fans in Great Britain ( and the rest of Europe) got a Christmas surprise. Five, until then unissued ABBOTT tracks by Jim Reeves were released by RCA on the LP album THE ABBOTT RECORDINGS, Volume 2. The fans were longing to hear these tracks for almost two decades. The excitement was great.
It all started when Arie den Dulk, president of the then called īNEW DUTCH JIM REEVES FAN CLUBī received an invitation from RCA UK, to advise them on the release of a 2LP JIM REEVES album with 37 ABBOTT recordings , on PICKWICK, one of the so-called budget labels.
I took along my own copy of the LP album ABBOTT 5001 īJIM REEVES SINGSī and showed it to them.
Mary Reeves apparently didn't like the idea of releasing all of Jimīs 37 ABBOTT sides on a cheap budget label which didnīt bear the RCA name. So RCA instead released the tracks in two volumes in two separate LPs. They reproduced the front cover of my copy of the ABBOTT 5001 LP on the front cover of volume 1. Country Music Roundup editor Don Ford wrote the liner notes, and copied all the erroneous "facts" from the liner notes of the original ABBOTT LP.
