APPRECIATIVE LETTER FROM PHILIP CALE'S SISTER
Dear Arie den Dulk,
I was very touched to read the article posted by David Bussey about my brother, Philip Cale. Please would you thank him for his very kind words. I believe you met Philip and, as you know, he was indeed one of the very great fans of Jim Reeves. He worked very hard, right up until just a few weeks before he passed on, to promote Jim and keep his memory alive.
David's lovely article does contain an inaccuracy. Philip was not in a coma after his accident but it is certainly very accurate to say that the velvet voice of Jim Reeves did much to aid his recovery and help him through painful times throughout his life. It also helped our mother, Jose, (who is now 88 years old and grieving very much for Phil) and myself and three brothers. Philip requested that Jim singing 'Welcome to my World' be played at his funeral. My brothers and myself escorted Phil's coffin into the Crematorium to this song. It was beautiful.
I feel that in Phil's case Jim was certainly able to 'soothe one humble heart in pain...'.
Thank you and David Bussey for running the Fan Club which gave Philip so much enjoyment and interest. I will be in touch again,
Philip's sister - Cherry (Oliver)
