YEARS AGO THIS MONTH,
THE FIRST ISSUE OF THE U.K. JIM REEVES FAN CLUB MAGAZINE WAS PUBLISHED
50 Years ago this very
month in March 1966, the U.K. Jim Reeves Fan Club began its humble operational
beginnings with its first club magazine & newsletter - 8 pages printed on pink
paper. It was to be known as "The Jim Reeves Appreciation Society," but the
printer took liberties with setting up the cover page, and erroneosly decided it
was a "Fan Club" - and thus it remained for 11 years The first 4 free issues in
1966 were on pink, green, blue & yellow pages respectively.
In September 1966, Mary Reeves Davis bestowed official status on the club, insisting on a membership fee be charged, & the 11 page, November 1966 no.5 issue of the magazine & newsletter marked the commencement of the club's stated promotion of Jim's music & memory with its slogan "Buy - Play - Request the music of Jim Reeves."
